The Fire Fighters Walk For Life group was established in 2015 by Lochinvar Rural Fire Brigade members Michael Gillis and Jeff Jackson, following the passing away of a well respected local fire inspector to cancer. Also within our own brigade were a number of members and family members that were undertaking their own personal battles with cancer.
As a result, Michael and Jeff decided to undertake a trek from Tamworth to East Maitland a distance of 260km on foot. In September 2015 the walk was completed and during the 2015 campaign $24,599 was raised for the Cancer Council NSW. During the 2016 campaign we raised a further $27,000. Bringing the total raised in 2 years being $51,609.
It has also been our goal to promote the services and support offered by the Cancer Council NSW, particularly in the Hunter region.
It is now 2017 and we are again planning to undertake a trek again. The group has expanded this year with many new members jumping on-board wanting to assist with the mission of raising money. It is also our intention to improve on 2015 and raise over $27,000 for the Cancer Council NSW.
The 2017 Route will see the group start the walk in Lidcombe west of Sydney and travel to Lochinvar in the Hunter Valley.
